Ink-wash illustration of a warrior surrounded by a burst of flame

Original 2D AnimeChinese Ink-WashColour

Ink as the bone, colour as the flame.

Hand-directed illustration for games, comics, covers and animation — built on variable-weight brush linework, deep ink masses and a small number of violently saturated focal colours.

The approach

Structure first,
colour last.

Every piece starts as a drawn line — silhouette, weight, gesture, fold logic. Ink carries the structure; colour is rationed and then spent, so one or two hot hues hit hard against a dark ground instead of smearing across the whole frame.

My workflow blends traditional ink-and-brush thinking with modern digital tools, including AI-assisted rendering under my own direction. Nothing ships straight from a model: linework, colour grouping, lighting and final correction are done by hand, with every character kept on a locked reference sheet so they stay the same person across shots.

  • Variable-weight linework
  • Dry-brush & wet-bleed texture
  • Cel shading with ink shadow masses
  • Locked character sheets
  • Print-ready resolution

How it runs

Process

  1. Brief & reference

You send the character, mood and any references. I confirm scope, deadline and price in writing before anything starts.

  2. Sketch approval

Composition and pose come to you as roughs. Nothing gets rendered until the drawing is right — this is where the piece is won or lost.

  3. Line, ink & colour

Clean linework, ink shadow masses, then a rationed colour pass. You get one mid-progress look before the final polish.

  4. Delivery

Layered source plus flattened exports in the resolution you need. Revisions from the agreed rounds are included.
